Apple Released Update of Leopard 10.5.4

Apple on Monday released Mac OS X 10.5.4, another update to its “Leopard” operating system. According to Apple, some of the more general fixes include all recent security updates, a fixed issue with Adobe CS3 files on a remote server, and additional RAW image support. AirPort appears to have gotten a tweak that improves reliability on 5GHz networks (woo!), in addition to a fix for performance problems in Logic Studio and MainStage.

Me.com Email Address is Available Now

If you are a .Mac subscriber, Apple appears to have activated the corresponding @me.com email addresses. If your email address was username@mac.com previously, you can now use username@me.com and emails should arrive in your .Mac mailbox.

Flipswap Offers Cash for Old Cell Phones

Flipswap offers a fast, free and “green” way to give your cell phone a second life. There are more than one hundred million working cell phones that become unused every year. Flipswap has created a way to give these cell phones a second life. Both consumers and businesses can exchange their phones for store credit or cash at one of Flipswap’s 4,000 participating retailers; or they can choose to have the money donated to charity. Once collected, Flipswap gives the cell phone to the needy. In 2007 Flipswap recycled enough phones “to keep the equivalent of 50 tons of solid waste, most of it toxic, out of our landfills.”

A Brief Snippet of Flock, Social Web Browser

The current explosion of social networking will soon result in most websites having a social networking component.  As a result the big step in social networking isn’t going to be who creates the next MySpace, Facebook, or YouTube, but who creates a website or software to consolidate all the data that all these networks produce.

Relational Database Market Hits Record High, $18.8 Billion in 2007

The year 2007 witnessed rapid market growth of RDBMS (Relational Database Management System), with significant improvement on the part of the top five vendors in this space. The RDBMS market is estimated to have grown by 12.6 percent from $16.7 billion in 2006 to $18.8 billion in 2007.

Microsoft Launches Virtualization Milestone

Microsoft has announced the RTM (release to manufacturing) and an available download for its new hypervisor-based server virtualization platform. Hyper-V allows a single physical server to be divided into as many as 64 virtual machines, each running its own server operating system, according to the company.

A quick Look of WebMynd: a DVR for Web

WebMynd, a firefox add-ons provides a visual interface for reviewing your browsing history. For the most part it runs in the background saving copies of every page you visit to WebMynd’s server. When you click the WebMynd button on your toolbar a page opens up showing your most recently visited pages plotted on a “reel.” You can scroll left or right to see other recent pages. Or you can click the Grid view to see a larger number of thumbnailed images. The basic add-on is free and keeps pages for a week. Users pay $10 for six months of history or $20 for a full year.

Google Launched Media Server

Google just announced its odd Google Media Server, a Windows app that finds photos, music, and video and makes it available to DLNA devices like the PlayStation 3, XBox 360, and most Media Center PCs. The Google Media Server can connect a PC to any device that supports Universal Plug and Play, or UPnP, a set of computer network protocols that enable devices to share data across a home network.

Nokia Buys Plazes, a Social Networking Location Aware Site

The world’s top cellphone maker, Nokia, has agreed to buy social networking start-up Plazes as part of its major push into offering Internet services. Plazes provides location-aware services that people can use to plan, record and share their social activities. Nokia did not disclose the value of the deal.
