A research group said on Monday that the launch of Apple Inc’s latest operating system, Leopard, was its best ever. As per the study, dollar volume for Leopard was up 32.8 percent compared to Mac 10.5 and 10.4 operating system (OS). This is the sixth version of OS from Apple.
Apple, maker of the Macintosh computer, the iPod, Digital Music Player and the iPhone, smartphone, started selling Leopard on October 25, after the delay of 4 mth.
The new version of Apple’s OS costs $129 for a single user and $199 for five users.
New features include “Time Machine,” a file back up feature, improvements to e-mail and instant messaging. It is also capable of viewing documents or files without starting up a separate program. In addition, user can access to other computers on a home or an office network.
Does the Mac user need a firewall? It’s a surprisingly difficult question to answer. Firewalls prevent unapproved connections to open ports on a computer or network, but the average Mac, by default, doesn’t open many ports in the first place.
There are no known attacks for these default services from Leopard. This is unlike most versions of Windows that ship with a bunch of open services for an attacker to target.
