Cisco today launched new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) type collaboration portfolio. The Cisco collaboration portfolio consists of Cisco Unified Communications, Cisco TelePresence and a new Web 2.0 application platform. The collaboration network will help people collaborate, communicate and connect from any business application.
“Collaboration is just a huge focus for Cisco,” Dave Knight, the company’s director of product management of collaborative software, told InternetNews.com. “It’s an area we think is really the next wave of the Internet and we’re investing heavily.”
An open architecture and standards-based application programming interface (API) incorporates application and network services and provides end-user customization, IT integration and third-party application and hardware interoperability. Customers can create collaborative mash-ups with public Web-based tools and with corporate applications like customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP).
The product has following features:
- Unified Communications: Cisco Unified Communications System Release 7.0 provides improvements in total cost of ownership, ease of use, and cross operation with business applications.
- Video: Cisco TelePresence Expert on Demand integrates the Cisco TelePresence application into the contact center for efficient customer service and the ability to call expertise directly from a Cisco TelePresence meeting.
- Web 2.0 Applications Platform: Cisco WebEx Connect, a new software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, integrates presence, instant messaging, Web meetings with Web 2.0 business applications.
