Google announced new tool Google Apps Sync to synchronize email, contacts, calendar directly with Microsoft outlook through web. With this, Google is trying to become more competitive with Microsoft Exchange. You need Outlook 2003 SP3 or 2007 SP2 (or SP1 with a hotfix), running on Windows XP SP2 (with selected hotfixes) or Vista SP1 (with a hotfix) to run the utility.
The new utility with premier version costs $50 per business user, but it is also available free for educational and nonprofit users. As per Dave Girouard, president of Google’s enterprise business, enterprise apps generate quite a significant amount as revenue every year and is growing.
The essential features of the tool are:
- Synchronize outlook Calendar, contact and email with Google Apps.
- Free/Busy lookup and Global Address List functionality, which makes it easy to schedule meetings with your colleagues, regardless of whether they use Outlook’s calendar or Google Calendar.
- The simple data migration tool helps you copy the existing data from Outlook to Google apps and vice versa
