IBM Rolled Out Next Generation Smart Tool for Data Center Management

IBM recently announced new smart dashboard solution IBM Systems Director 6.1 for Data Center Management. This is also part of IBM’s New Enterprise Data Center strategy to streamline Data Center operation. The software will help clients to view, maintain and adjust the energy consumption, performance, and hardware utilization of their multi-system, virtualized environment from a single window.

The benefit of using System Director is as follows:

  • As per the recent study, the cost of service administration and energy required for running servers at Data Center sometimes exceeds the spending for server hardware. IBM Systems Director reduces the above cost by 30%. The integration of IBM Systems Director with IBM Tivoli enterprise service management provides hassle free System Management.
  • Reduces the downtime of the servers by monitoring the health status of the complete Data Center.
  • Optimize the use of virtual resources to improve server utilization and to reduce energy usage and cooling.

IBM Systems Director supervises the operations of IBM System z, IBM Power Systems, IBM BladeCenter and IBM System x servers, as well as IBM System Storage platforms, along with other non-IBM hardware and storage systems.

“With IBM Systems Director, we’re providing clients a means to better understand the complexity and costs associated with managing their datacenter,” says Rich Lechner, Vice President, Enterprise Systems. “As a result, clients can coordinate and manage the virtual and physical resources that make up their entire infrastructure. The combination of IBM Systems Director and Tivoli software consolidates an IT manager’s infrastructure in one view — an ‘intelligent dashboard’ — allowing them to see and manage in real time the energy, space and people costs they need to allocate for and optimize.”
