IgniteNYC, a Network Site for Techies
IgniteNYC is one of those social networking groups, for technology and new media people. The first IgniteNYC celebrated last week, 7/29 at M1-5. The event mainly featured 16 speakers. Each speaker got 20 slides for their presentation.
The new techie parties are aimed to unveil new ideas. And these days, many of those ideas are about producing and delivering video content. When the internet bubble burst, so did the party scenario at Silicon Valley. Now, a few creative entrepreneurs get together to launch new business ideas.
“Instead of just going out to drink and be bored,” said Ilana Arazie, whose video blog, Downtown Diary, chronicles her love life, “you’re talking to interesting people who are starting companies and telling great stories.”
Like any other party scene, a few mini-stars have emerged, appearing nearly every night at one or two events. By promoting their video blogs or online games, they seem to steal the spotlight at the party as well as at the Web.
Others attend hoping to meet venture capitalists; some are just attracted to a night life that involves actually talking to creative people doing exciting things, rather than heading out to clubs and bars that beat you into silence with their loud noise.
