Review of Joost, A Free Internet TV Service

Joost is a P2P internet TV service based on Flash-based Web player. It is just like watching your Television but whenever you want. The service is free. But, there are video ad in between the program and image ad on the side. Joost offers a desktop client that allows the user to watch on-demand TV over the internet and it requires a download. Since , it is a P2P service,  the server streams out less data. It only serves a few users. The rest of the data is distributed from peer to peer.

Joost gets content from CNN, the NHL and Sony and their financiers CBS and Viacom. News updates, discussion forums, show ratings, and multi-user chat sessions are  possible through the use of semi-transparent widget overlays. They also developed new widget API for the third party to make their own widgets.

The My Joost area lets you invite friends to watch specific shows; it has a simple IM tool for chatting as you watch. Another widget enables you to use a five-star system to rate the shows that you watched. It has also a search box at the bottom to search by keyword.
