The server market regardless of x86 or Unix is impacted badly due to recession. The data shows that overall sales for Servers went down by 24% worldwide. It also says that the top 5 vendors witnessed double digit drop of server market during the same period. Additionally, the shipment dropped to 1.7 million units.
From Revenue standpoint, the top five are ranked as follws. 1> IBM 2> HP 3> Dell 4> Sun Micro 5> Fuzitsu Simens. In terms of shipment, HP tops the list followed by Dell and IBM. Gartner also predicts that Server market is going to be like this for the rest of the year. The firm also says that the server market is not going to witness any significant growth until next year.
“While this was not unexpected, the severity of the decline was greater than predicted on a worldwide level,” said Gartner analyst.
