SAP made a deal with SUN Microsystem that SAP customers will be able to use Java Standard Edition For Business by using SAP NetWeaver technology platform. That lets SAP customers use Java SE 1.4.2 on both Windows (x86_32, x86_64, IA64) and Linux (x86_32, IA64) platforms. Java SE for Business provides critical support for Java SE applications. The customers also get security and maintenance releases, critical fixes and ongoing Sun support for up to 15 years.
The agreement allows SAP customers to continue using SAP NetWeaver 2004 and SAP NetWeaver 7.0 software on Windows and Linux without further Java SE for Business contract with Sun. Java SE for Business allows SAP to obtain an earlier certification of its SAP NetWeaver 2004 and SAP NetWeaver 7.0 based products on the Windows 2008 release.
