IBM and Nokia announced today that Nokia Smart Phone users will be able to access Corporate IBM Lotus Notes from next month. Nokia made this announcement with the backdrop of falling demand of mobile phones due to global financial crisis. Some analysts predict that there is a bright future of Smartphone in the coming year. Nokia sold 1.1 million of its new sleek E71 phones in the third quarter that outsell RIM’s business Blackberry Bold by five-to-one, according to Nokia.
“With this partnership we are able to to mobilise close to 90 percent of corporate emails without any extra investments from corporations,” Ilari Nurmi, VP at Nokia, told Reuters.
Nokia stopped development of its corporate email product this year because they want to concentrate on development of phones that will be convenient for corporate email users. As per Nokia, 80 million users of its Smartphones can access IBM’s Lotus Notes email. Adding support for Smartphones gives Nokia the capability to aim for broader audience.
