PC Tools iAntiVirus provides real-time protection and comprehensive system scanning to ensure your Mac remains safe and virus free. The beta version is free to download, though there’s a $49.95 charge for commercial or supported use. Once your computer has been infected, a virus or worm will usually attempt to spread itself to your friends, family and associates by accessing your email contacts and networked PCs. The infection may also allow hackers to access files on your Mac, use it as a zombie to launch attacks against other computers and websites or to send mass SPAM email.

Wall Street turned thumbs down to a good earnings report from Apple on Monday. Sales of Macintosh computers and iPod music players boosted Apple’s profits by almost a third from last year. But still, Apple stock fell by more than $16 a share, just shy of ten percent, in afterhours trading.

Apple announced yesterday that it had sold 1 million of the new model of iPhone by Sunday, just two days after it was launched. Apple introduced the iPhone 3G on Friday in 21 countries, including Australia, Italy, Mexico and New Zealand, and people around the world grabbed them.

Apple’s highly anticipated App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch is likely to launch tomorrow, according to Forbes citing three sources. The launch would take place at noon Eastern time, which is 9am out here on the west coast

With the price of NAND flash memory continuing its steady sequential decline, Apple Inc. this month cut the price of its Solid State Drive (SSD)-equipped MacBook Air by half a grand, AppleInsider has discovered.

Apple on Monday released Mac OS X 10.5.4, another update to its “Leopard” operating system. According to Apple, some of the more general fixes include all recent security updates, a fixed issue with Adobe CS3 files on a remote server, and additional RAW image support. AirPort appears to have gotten a tweak that improves reliability on 5GHz networks (woo!), in addition to a fix for performance problems in Logic Studio and MainStage.

If you are a .Mac subscriber, Apple appears to have activated the corresponding @me.com email addresses. If your email address was username@mac.com previously, you can now use username@me.com and emails should arrive in your .Mac mailbox.
