China to Relax Internet Censorship for Olympic

China came under heavy fire after it banned certain websites for Olympic. But, ultimately the Govt lifted the ban after discussion with International Olympic Committee (IOC). Now, sites including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the BBC Chinese language service are visible in the media center for the Games.

NPR Will Webcast Newport Music Festival

Music lovers who can not attend the Newport Folk and Jazz festival will be able to watch part of the concert online. NPR Music, part of National Public Radio, announced Wednesday that it would stream selected portion from both festivals online. The webcasts will be archived and available on-demand for future use.

AOL to Scrap Some of Its On Line Services

Aol is cutting down some of its internet services in order to boost the finances. The company is going to put out Bluestring, a site to share videos, music, and photos; Xdrive, a general-purpose online storage service; and AOL Pictures, where people could store and share photos, according to a July 14 memo from Kevin Conroy, AOL’s executive vice president of products and marketing. These services with AIM World and MyMobile will be discontinued because they didn’t get much popularity.

Google Launched Media Server

Google just announced its odd Google Media Server, a Windows app that finds photos, music, and video and makes it available to DLNA devices like the PlayStation 3, XBox 360, and most Media Center PCs. The Google Media Server can connect a PC to any device that supports Universal Plug and Play, or UPnP, a set of computer network protocols that enable devices to share data across a home network.

Copyright Disputes Resolved between AP and Blogger

The AP probably had no idea it would create such a firestorm in the blogging community by telling the (aptly named) Drudge Retort to remove seven headlines and story briefs from its site. Media commentator Jeff Jarvis tried to mediate, and then lost his temper. Michael Arrington urged a boycott of the AP.

Feedburner is All Set to Launch AdSense Next Week

Google-owned FeedBurner is set to launch AdSense for RSS next week according to a post on the company’s blog. Much like the AdSense for Web sites, AdSense for RSS will show contextual text advertising in publisher’s RSS feeds.
