Friendstar’s New Business Strategy

Friendstar is one of the early social networking sites which was overshadowed in recent times by mySpace and facebook.  The company will announce Tuesday a new chief executive, Richard Kimber, the regional managing director of South Asia for Google and $20 million of new funding. Also, they are going to have a fresh look on Asia.

Facebook Sues German Social Networking Firm studiVZ

Facebook is suing leading German social network StudiVZ for copyright infringement. StudiVZ claims to have 10 million active members, and is the largest social network in the German speaking world, covering Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. The network is actually split across three different sites, each one a seperate social network aimed at different parts of the market. Studivz.net is the classic site for college-aged students, Schuelervz.net is for high school students and Meinvz.net is for older adults (this three-networks was very confusing for me to decipher in German when I attempted to signup).

Social Networking Can Endanger Corporate Network

Trend Micro Incorporated (TSE: 4704), a global leader in Internet content security, reported today an increase in the number of employees who admit to visiting social networking sites on the Internet while connected to the corporate network, according to the results of a Trend Micro study that explores corporate computer users’ perceptions of and experiences with security threats.

Nokia Buys Plazes, a Social Networking Location Aware Site

The world’s top cellphone maker, Nokia, has agreed to buy social networking start-up Plazes as part of its major push into offering Internet services. Plazes provides location-aware services that people can use to plan, record and share their social activities. Nokia did not disclose the value of the deal.

Reddit Now Goes Open Source
