Google Announces Android, an Open Source Mobile OS

Google just officially announced the Open Handset Alliance to create an open platform (to be called Android) for a Linux phone that can run mobile Google apps and others. At LugRadio Live yesterday in San Francisco, Google developer and Linux kernel contributor Robert Love gave a presentation about the open source Android mobile phone operating system and software development kit.

Google and Salesforce Join Hands to fight Microsoft

In an effort to position Salesforce.com as more of a software platform and less of a sales-force automation service, Salesforce.com and Google today announced that Google will provide its Google Apps offering as part of the Salesforce.com platform.

Google Doc Now Available Offline

One of the most innovative additions that Google may be making of its application suite, Google Doc is the ability to save locally. Writing a document on-line and the power goes out, taking with it your entire creativity. It is really very frustrating. However, the days of on-line document editing are over. Google Docs has recently enabled offline editing for Word documents to Google Doc users.

47% of Adult US Uses Search Engines (Google?) for Information

According to the latest report published by Pew Internet and American Life Project, 47 percent of U.S. adult Internet users have looked for information through Google or other search engine. That is more than twice the 22 percent of users in 2002. Also it appears majority are Googling their neighbors. The study says:

Google’s Knol Issues Big Challenge To Wikipedia

Knol is a project planned by Google for user-generated articles on topics ranging from scientific concepts, to medical information, from geographical and historical, to entertainment, from product information, to how-to-fix-it instructions. Currently, it is in Beta, and is soon to be released.
