SpringSource to Release Tomcat Based Enterprise Web Server to Provide Mission-Critical Operational Capabilities and Support

SpringSource, maker of the popular open-source Spring Framework for Java, announced new open source Web Application Server for Enterprises based on Apache Tomcat server. The new server preserves all of the features of Tomcat but adds some capabilities like enterprise management and diagnostic features. The tc server costs $500 per CPU per year for an enterprise-level subscription. Version 6.0.18 of Tomcat is featured with tc Server. The enterprise server is due in January.

Will SUN Survive after Restructuring due to Global Financial Crisis

SUN MICROSYSTEM is now going through a very difficult phase after financial meltdown all over the world. It did not recover fully from  the dot-com crisis as of yet.  They planned to cut 6,000 jobs, or 18 percent of its global work force. Sales of high end servers, specially for financial sectors fell 27 percent in the latest quarter and that made a big dent in their revenue. The cuts should save an estimated $700 million to $800 million annually.

Sun and Microsoft Rolled Out Infrastructure Solution For Exchange Server

Verizon Prefers Linux to Android for Mobile Platform

Verizon Wireless confirmed its support for mobile Linux. It becomes the first U.S. operator to join the LiMo Foundation, a group developing mobile Linux technology. Key members include Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic, Samsung, and LG.
