Sun Microsystem Rolled Out X64 Servers For Next-Generation Virtualization And Datacenter

Sun launched Sun Fire X4450 server and Sun Blade X6450 server module, They consist of  Intel Xeon processor 7400 series and can run on latest version of Solaris 10 including Linux, Windows and VMware. The Sun Fire X4450 server and Sun Blade X6450 server module is scheduled to begin shipping next month, with price starting at $8,545 and $9,455, respectively.

Oracle Tied Up with HP to Launch Hardware Business

Oracle initiated hardware business in partnersip with HP for the first time in 31 years history. Oracle introduces HP Oracle Database Machine which is 10 times faster than current Data Warehouses. Chief Executive Larry Ellison launched the product at Oracle customer conference in front of 43,000 people. It took three years to develop the product. The database machine will sell for $650,000 and store up to 168 terabytes.

IBM Announced Single Sign-in Software for Enterprise

IBM launched new security software, Tivoli Access Manager for Enterprise Single Sign On, TAM ESSO, for password management. Sun Microsystem unveiled new version of Virtualization Software  Sun XVM VirtualBox which is a free. Simultaneously, Sun also announced Enterprise Sun XVM VirtualBox with 24/7 Customer Support. The Virtual Box is a major open source software that supports Mac OS X, Linux, Windows, Solaris and OpenSolaris. XVM also extended its support for 64 bit Operating Systems like Red Hat Linux and Windows Vista.

IBM VC Requested to Make Linux Unique, Less Like Windows

Bob Sutor, IBM’s VP of open source and standards said at the Black Hat conference at Las Vegas that user should pay attention to design Linux interface less like windows. The UI design should comprise some unique and cool features. IBM joined hands with Linux distributors Red Hat, Novell, and Canonical at Linuxworld the day before to build “Microsoft-free PCs for business.”

Foxconn New BIOS Fixes Linux Crashes

A recent press briefing explains different Linux related bugs in the Motherboards that are manufactured by Foxconn. The trouble prone area is AMI BIOS that several board makers use. Foxconn is the first vendor out with a publicly released test patch that fixes the bulk of the problems. The patch allows kernel 2.6.26 to run well on the G33M series.
