The latest version of web application framework, Ruby On Rails 2.2 was just released. The software provides internationalization framework and stronger support for HTTP validators. Internationalization is the default feature and HTTP validators is provided by in the form of eTag. Thread safety and a connection pool for the Active Record capability are the other interesting features.

The Latest Inclusion of Corporate IBM Lotus Notes with Nokia Smart Phones to Make It More Competitive with RIM

IBM and Nokia announced today that Nokia Smart Phone users will be able to access Corporate IBM Lotus Notes from next month. Nokia made this announcement with the backdrop of falling demand of mobile phones due to global financial crisis. Some analysts predict that there is a bright future of Smartphone in the coming year.  Nokia sold 1.1 million of its new sleek E71 phones in the third quarter that outsell RIM’s business Blackberry Bold by five-to-one, according to Nokia.

New IBM COGNOS BI Software Offers Banks Quick and Comprehensive Credit Risk Information

Open Source Software Gets Further Boost by NASA’s Adoption of Defect Tracking Tools Bugzilla

Astronauts on board and technician on ground, at NASA , will be using Open Source Software, Problem Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action (PRACA) system to streamline the process of  problem reporting and analysis. The software was developed by Human-Computer Interaction Group at NASA’s Ames Research Center. Will SUN Survive after Restructuring due to Global Financial Crisis

SUN MICROSYSTEM is now going through a very difficult phase after financial meltdown all over the world. It did not recover fully from  the dot-com crisis as of yet.  They planned to cut 6,000 jobs, or 18 percent of its global work force. Sales of high end servers, specially for financial sectors fell 27 percent in the latest quarter and that made a big dent in their revenue. The cuts should save an estimated $700 million to $800 million annually.

IBM to Launch Broadband Service Through Power Lines to Enhance Its Widespread Implementation in Rural Areas in US

IBM unveiled an idea to implement Broadband through Power line. The technology was here for quite a while, but, it was never implemented. The Blue chip company ties up with International Broadband Electric to launch the new mobilization in the distant part of rural area. Other companies tried to provide the service before with the similar concept. But, it didn’t go further. The basic service starts from $29.95 per month with 256 kbps download. But, other plans offer download speed upto 3 megabits per second which is in line with DSL or Cable.

A Close Look of Compulab Fit-PC, a Tiny, Noiseless, Low-Power PC Suitable for Home or Enterprise

The Compulab Fit-PC is a tiny, silent, extremely low power computer (3 -5 watts).
