Sun Microsystem Launched Virtualization Software, xVM VirtualBox 2.0

Sun Microsystem unveiled new version of Virtualization Software  Sun XVM VirtualBox which is a free. Simultaneously, Sun also announced Enterprise Sun XVM VirtualBox with 24/7 Customer Support. The Virtual Box is a major open source software that supports Mac OS X, Linux, Windows, Solaris and OpenSolaris. XVM also extended its support for 64 bit Operating Systems like Red Hat Linux and Windows Vista.

Nortel Added Unified Communication Feature by the Acquisition of Pingtel

Nortel announced that it has acquired Pingtel, an unified communication based software provider and is owned by Bluesocket inc, a mobile solution provider. Financial terms of the deal has not been announced yet. All of the employees of Pingtel will be integrated with Nortel. On the other hand hand, Pingtel is going to add unified communication based portfolio in addition to its research capabilities to Nortel.

IBM VC Requested to Make Linux Unique, Less Like Windows

Bob Sutor, IBM’s VP of open source and standards said at the Black Hat conference at Las Vegas that user should pay attention to design Linux interface less like windows. The UI design should comprise some unique and cool features. IBM joined hands with Linux distributors Red Hat, Novell, and Canonical at Linuxworld the day before to build “Microsoft-free PCs for business.”

Intel Releases Moblin for Open Source

One year after announcing its homegrown mobile Linux project, Intel prepares to hand Moblin over to the open source community. Intel is readying a second release of the Moblin open-source platform for mobile computing, with plans set for an alpha-level version in a few weeks, an Intel official said at the O’Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON) in the US on Wednesday.

Alitheia Core, the Alpha Version of Open Source Quality Tester is Out

The Software Quality Observatory for Open Source Software (SQO-OSS) project has released an alpha version of Alitheia Core, an open-source software quality-checking tool. Firefox 3 to be Launched on June 17

Late Wednesday evening, a Mozilla spokesperson confirmed that the final edition of Firefox 3.0 is going to be available to the general public this upcoming Tuesday, June 17. The open source product is the second leading web browser on the market next to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer with roughly 18 percent market share.
