The recession finally hits AT&T. The telecom service provider announced to cut 12000 of its workforce, ie 4% staff across the world. The company further said that job cut is going to take place in December and thoroughout 2009. These layoffs come on top of 4,600 job cut that the company already announced in April. Although, they still claimed that they will also be hiring for Broadband and Cell Phone division for the year 2009.

Oracle unveiled Data Integrity Protection code for Linux community. The new code offers data integrity as the data moves from application to database, and from Linux operating system to disk storage. The new code enables Linux to provide additional check points and helps eliminate silent data corruption by reducing the potential for incorrect data to be written to the disk, decreasing application and database errors and system down-time.

Nine out of ten companies are going to opt for SaaS service next year as per the recent survey by Gartner. One third of the respondents are planning to replace their in house software with SaaS service. Cost effectiveness is the major reason to go for Saas compared to in house software. The survey involved eight major countries worldwide and 258 IT executives.

SpringSource, maker of the popular open-source Spring Framework for Java, announced new open source Web Application Server for Enterprises based on Apache Tomcat server. The new server preserves all of the features of Tomcat but adds some capabilities like enterprise management and diagnostic features. The tc server costs $500 per CPU per year for an enterprise-level subscription. Version 6.0.18 of Tomcat is featured with tc Server. The enterprise server is due in January.

Economic slowdown hits cell phone sales badly because of the fact that consumers are taking longer time to replace the handsets, as per Gartner. Although, there is a significant growth of cell phone sales in the Asia Pacific region as well as Eastern Europe and America, Western Europe and Japan were hit hardest.

Microsoft is currently working with Mobile Ajax technology called Kojax that allows Microsoft- and third-party-developed applets to run in an AJAX like, using a combination of Visual Studio tools and JavaScript, on Java-based mobile phones. ZDNet’s Mary-Zo-Foley says that the mobile application provides virtual wallet for online payments, a group messaging service and photo-sharing app. The application can be built on top of Windows Live for Mobile services.

Erasure complies with up to 14 international standards and provides an audit-ready report for proof of compliance. The new service provides global solution for eradicating non-critical data from customers’ hard disks. It also complies with security policies by standardizing on the stringent DOD 5220-22M policy for data erasure.

Flint Telecom Group Inc., a provider of ”turnkey” IP telecom services to Global Telecom and Enterprise Markets, announced the enhancement of SaaS based enterprise product HipLink software. The new product is a hybrid version for existing customers so that they can send voice calls directly through the Flint switching network. It will also enable customers’ access to turnkey end-to-end voice solutions for emergency and standard broadcasts for any size.
